Today Philadelphia Parks & Recreation announced that the City’s 90+ spraygrounds and splash pads will turn on for the season this holiday weekend. The spraygrounds will be open seven days a week between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day, weather dependent.

Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell joined City Councilmember Cherelle Parker at the Finley Recreation yesterday to celebrate the start of sprayground season. Images here.

This year, residents can enjoy many new spray areas, thanks to the City’s Rebuild initiative, and recently completed Parks & Recreation capital projects. These are:

Recently opened or renovated spraygrounds:
Capitolo Playground (Rebuild)
Granahan Playground
Hayes Recreation Center (Rebuild)
McCreesh Playground
Roosevelt Playground

Coming this summer:
Carmella Playground
Columbus Square
Gifford Playground (Rebuild)
Miles Mack Playground (Rebuild)
8th & Diamond Playground (Rebuild and partners)

“The temperature is rising, and the return of spraygrounds is a sign that summer is almost here,” said Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell. “Spraygrounds are a great way to stay cool and have fun on those hot summer days. We are excited to welcome residents back to our spraygrounds over the Memorial Day Weekend.”

“Recreation has never been more vital to our kids and communities than it will be this summer,” said Councilmember Cherelle Parker (Ninth District). “I am encouraged to see so many young people preparing to head back to their rec centers and community spaces this summer. After the year they’ve had, the best place for Philly kids to be this summer is at the rec – splashing around and making memories.”
