The City of Philadelphia began to reopen with care in early July. Read what this means for Parks & Recreation sites. This replaces the guidance listed below.

Philadelphia’s Safer-at-Home Order (yellow phase) went into effect on June 5. Here’s what the revised order means for Philadelphia Parks & Recreation services and sites. 

Before you go…

Help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 in Philadelphia. Please follow the advice of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health Department:

  • Do not go out if you or your child are self-quarantining or do not feel well. Know the symptoms.
  • Stay at least six feet from others.
  • Avoid gathering with people outside of your household.
  • Wash or sanitize hands before and after using play equipment. Parks & Rec will not be able to clean or sanitize play equipment while it is in use.
  • Use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol or wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.

Under the Safer-at-Home Order, effective June 5:

OPEN

  • Playgrounds at Parks & Rec sites will open for:
    • Individual households.
    • Parks & Rec summer programming. 
  • Parks, athletic fields, and trails remain open. 
  • Limited food concessions are open for pick up and take out service only. All operations will follow public health guidance.
  • The Fairmount Park Organic Recycling Center is operating on a limited capacity. The center is open by appointment only through June 30. Community gardeners and local growers may pick up compost or mulch for their gardens. For more information or to make an appointment. Email farmphilly@phila.gov to learn more.
  • Parks & Rec’s five golf courses and two driving ranges reopened on May 1. Players and staff must keep six feet of distance between themselves and others. Players must make reservations in advance. Read the full details.
  • Planned construction projects at Parks & Rec sites, including Rebuild projects, have resumed.
  • Park maintenance operations such as trash pickup, landscaping, and turf management will continue. Visitors should do their part to help keep our parks and trails clean for all. Please carry out what you carry in!

PROHIBITED

CLOSED OR CANCELED

  • Most Parks & Rec events and programs are canceled until further notice.
  • Athletics courts remain closed. The hoops that were removed from basketball courts will not be reinstalled until further notice.
  • All Parks & Rec buildings, including restrooms, remain closed to the public. This includes:
  • Events and sports leagues are not permitted. Learn how to receive a refund for your canceled event here.
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive will remain closed to vehicular traffic from the East Falls Bridge to Eakins Oval until further notice. The 24-hour-a-day closure will allow trail users more space for social distancing.
