A new, customer-friendly experience

As part of our commitment to making permitting, licensing, and inspections easier for customers, the Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) has launched our upgraded website.

To build L&I’s new website, we brought over the information you need from the Department’s legacy site and made it easier to use, and also added new content not previously available online.

L&I’s redesigned website offers

  • Easy-to-read explanations of Code requirements for the safe and lawful construction, maintenance, and use of buildings
  • Step-by-step guidance for getting licenses and permits
  • Easy-to-find tools for looking up permit status, licensed contractors, property history, and more
  • Quick access to online licensing – and coming soon, online permitting – through L&I’s eCLIPSE technology tool.

L&I’s new website was designed and built in partnership with the City’s Office of Digital Transformation (ODDT). ODDT is upgrading websites across City government to work together more seamlessly. The site is also built to evolve with user feedback.
