Cultural Opportunities

Philadelphia Parks & Recreation not only offers great, year-round activities, we also offer annual cultural opportunities for the artistically-inclined, or any brave soul who has something to express.

Art in the Park

Art in the Park is a free arts & craft program for participants of all ages. People can engage in art projects and connect with some of the local parks throughout the city.

This program will run in September and October, as well as April through June. Programs will be held Monday through Thursday, and Saturdays at the following locations:

Monday - Malcolm X Park
Tuesday - Marconi Plaza
Wednesday - Vernon Park
Thursday - Campbell Square
Saturday - Sister Cities Park, Fisher Park

Arts and Artists Outdoors (A2O)

A2O is a cutting-edge partnership with the Mural Arts Program that pairs middle school-aged youth with a professional artist-in-residence at their local recreation center to create artwork that highlights a nearby green space. In Spring 2013 the program is offered at five rec centers: Piccoli, Hawthorne, Ziehler, Mander, and Max Myers. Programming runs from April 8th-June 7th, 2013.

Spring Art Show

The 41st annual Spring Art Show will be held at the Central Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia in May, 2013. The Art Show will give recreation visual arts participants a chance to see their work honored on a citywide level. The public is given a chance to see what is happening in the Department's facilities and learn what programs are available in their neighborhoods.

The ages of the participants run from toddlers through senior citizens. Over two hundred and fifty works will be on display. The works include Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Pottery and Crafts. Work must have been done in a Parks and Recreation facility, not at home.
