Philadelphia Parks & Recreation (PPR) is excited to work with the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA’s Camp Speers on Camp Philly, a new program that will provide an opportunity for Philadelphia children to attend a one-week overnight camp in the Pocono Mountains. Opened in 1948, Camp Speers is a 1,100-acre property with a 40-acre private secluded lake.

Under the guidance of positive adult role models, campers will participate in a wide range of interactive programming, like:

  • Archery
  • Horseback riding
  • Stand-up paddle boarding
  • Drama
  • Swim lessons
  • Team sports
  • Arts & crafts
  • Mountain biking
  • Kayaking
  • High ropes
  • Fishing
  • Sailing

In the process, children will develop key skills, such as decision making, creativity, confidence and teamwork.

In 2018, Camp Philly will occur over 2 one-week sessions:

  • Session 1: Sunday, August 12 -Friday, August 17, 2018
  • Session 2: Sunday, August 19- Friday, August 24, 2018

This year, PPR will award 200 scholarships for 200 children between the ages of 9 and 11 to attend Camp Philly.
