What we do

Philadelphia Parks & Recreation connects the city’s residents to the natural world, each other, and fun things to do and see.

Our dedicated staff help manage:

  • Parks, rec centers, playgrounds, and pools.
  • Permits for picnics, sports fields, and important venues.
  • Creative and inclusive programs.
  • Signature city events and important historic and cultural sites.
  • Trees in parks and along the public right of way.
  • Capital and natural lands projects.
  • Recreation paths, trails, and boat launches.
  • Community gardens, farms, and orchards.
  • Special venues such as:
    • Environmental education centers.
    • The Dell Music Center.
    • Ice skating rinks and golf courses.

    Curious about archery? All ages 8 and up are invited to join us every week for beginner-friendly sessions, at the only totally cost-free outdoor archery range in the city. At our range:
    • Pre-registration is not necessary. Walk up, First Come, First Served.
    • All equipment provided, no outside bows allowed. 
    • Certified instructors to walk you through your first shot

    Enjoy a guided bird walk in the Andorra Natural Area during lunchtime! The winter is an excellent time for birding, as the Wissahickon is host to many boreal forest species like juncos, sparrows, and spasuckers. If its too cold, we will stay inside and watch the feeders!

    Join us to learn and try fishing, right here in South Philly. We provide rods, bait, and instruction. All ages are welcome

    2025 dates coming soon. Fishing is Wednesdays From 4-6:30 PM. Check our website and social media for updates

    The lakes are cleaner and fish include bass, catfish, sunfish/ bluegill, carp, and more.
