Volunteer

Philadelphia Parks and Recreation welcomes citizens to become involved as volunteers to help maintain parks and enhance recreation programming. There are many opportunities to get involved, from volunteering with an afterschool program to joining a Park Friends Group.

Volunteer for Your Park

Volunteers are essential to the health, cleanliness and vitality of the City’s parks. Philadelphia’s beautiful public spaces are enjoyed on a daily basis by thousands of city residents and visitors alike. This high level of usage and the large number of parks create a challenge when it comes to keeping the city’s parks “Safe, Clean and Ready to Use”-- which is why we need your help!

If you would like to volunteer in a neighborhood park, check our list of Friends groups with websites to see if your park has an active group. If so, reach out to them directly for volunteer opportunities. If you don’t see your park listed, please contact Patty-Pat Kozlowski, Director of Stewardship, at 215-683-3640.

If you’re a corporate entity looking for an individualized volunteer experience for your employees in one of Philadelphia's parks, please contact Lindsey Walker, Stewardship Coordinator at the Fairmount Park Conservancy, 215-607-3489.

If you’re a non-corporate group of volunteers looking to get involved, please contact Patty-Pat Kozlowski, Director of Stewardship, at 215-683-3640.

Volunteer with Recreation Centers and Other Facilities

Recreation Centers offer a variety of safe, structured activities for youth during out-of-school time, including sports, arts, and homework help, while Environmental Education Centers provide public programming and activities that foster a love of nature. Volunteers can contribute many skills and talents to support programming according to centers’ needs. If you would like to assist with an after-school program, sports club or summer camp at one of our facilities, please contact staff on-site using the Find-A-Facility page.

In order to volunteer for an on-going position at a playground or recreation center, you must receive background clearances. Please read Philadelphia Parks & Recreation's volunteer clearance policy for more information.

Volunteer at an Event

In addition to ongoing programming at parks, recreation centers, and other facilities, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation coordinates special events. These events include:
  • The Broad Street Run, held in May each year, is a decades-old Philadelphia tradition. Even if you won’t be running, you can still join in the fun as an individual or group volunteer
  • The Philadelphia International Unity Cup is a World Cup-style soccer tournament celebrating Philadelphia’s diverse immigrant communities, kicking off in September and leading up to a championship game in November. Volunteers are needed for each weekend’s games.
  • LOVE Your Park Week (May) and Fall Service Day (November) offer volunteer opportunities with Park Friends Groups across the city. Help clean and green Philadelphia’s parks with LOVE Your Park service events in spring and fall: registration typically opens a month in advance.
