Philadelphia — Today, Mayor Jim Kenney and Miriam Enriquez, Office of Immigrant Affairs Director, released the following statement in support of A Day Without Immigrants:
“Immigrants have had an overwhelming positive impact on Philadelphia. They have helped to reverse a 50-year population decline, they are responsible for the majority of our Main Street business growth, and they have increased our city’s cultural vibrancy in many ways. As we recognize these contributions on ‘A Day Without Immigrants,’ it’s also important to recognize that protecting the rights of immigrants has never been more urgent as it is today. We encourage everyone to find a way to show that immigrants are welcome in Philadelphia.”
The city recently released a Quick Facts guide with ways that people can support immigrant communities in Philadelphia.
