Philadelphia Honored Among Top U.S. Cities Using Technology to Boost Services
(Philadelphia, November 10, 2016) – Philadelphia’s efforts to use technology to improve services and better connect neighborhoods received high praise today as the Center for Digital Government announced the winners of the 2016 Digital Cities Survey.
Philadelphia earned a second place ranking, after Los Angeles, among all cities with populations of 500,000 or higher. According to the CDG, “A significant overhaul of elected and appointed leadership in Philadelphia hasn’t slowed its digital journey, judging by its second-place finish in this year’s survey. Elected in 2015, Mayor Jim Kenney’s brand of innovation is evidenced by the newly established Office of Open Data and Digital Transformation, charged with fostering transparency and user-centered services.”
The CDG singled out several projects of the ODDT Office, including the recent launch of www.phila.gov, the continuing release of Open Data sets and the development of a metadata catalog, GIS mobile applications, and efforts such as Keyspots to bridge the digital divide.
“I’m enormously proud of the ODDT team for the tremendous progress we’ve made in 2016,” said the City’s Chief Administrative Officer, Rebecca Rhynhart. “Being ranked second by the Center for Digital Government among the largest U.S. cities proves that industry and municipal leaders across the nation recognize that progress as well.”
The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute focused on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government.
