PHILADELPHIA— Mayor Jim Kenney has issued the following statement on the United States Treasury’s recent announcement that Philadelphia native, acclaimed opera singer and Civil Rights pioneer Marian Anderson will be honored with her likeness appearing on the back of the new $5 bill.

“The City of Philadelphia is thrilled by the recent announcement that Marian Anderson will be appearing on the back of the new Five Dollar Bill. Her immense vocal talent and her selfless work as a civil rights leader was renowned throughout Philadelphia and across the world. I applaud the U.S. Treasury on their decision and look forward to continuing to honor Marian Anderson’s legacy in her hometown.”
