Building on Mayor Kenney’s commitment to reducing Philadelphia’s carbon footprint 80 percent by 2050, Greenworks: A Vision for a Sustainable Philadelphia sets long-term visions around cleaner air, efficient and clean energy use, and climate mitigation and adaptation.

To help prioritize short-term actions to achieve each of these visions, the Office of Sustainability is developing an Energy Master Plan for the built environment (including buildings, street lighting, and other stationary energy users).

The plan will establish a baseline for future energy performance, assess the impact of adopting proposed policies and programs, and set long-term energy conservation goals. We held a webinar (Adobe Connect) last month to introduce the plan and collect some initial feedback.

Over the next few months, the Office of Sustainability will continue to work with consultants and partners to quantify the impacts of various programs and policies for both city-owned buildings and Philadelphia as a whole. We’ll be holding a public open house in the spring to preview the final plan and hear from you in person, but in the meantime please send us your thoughts on Philadelphia’s energy future at sustainability@phila.gov.
