Ever wondered how the city works to remove blight in neighborhoods?

That’s why CLIP exists!

CLIP stands for Community Life Improvement Programs; they’re dedicated to improving the appearance of neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia. If you need a vacant lot cleaned, graffiti removed, or other exterior property maintenance, CLIP can help. You can bring about change simply by submitting a request through Philly311, your direct connection to government services provided by the City of Philadelphia.

CLIP also works with community groups, businesses, and residents who want to keep their neighborhoods clean by loaning out tools and supplies — a perfect option for groups hoping to participate in a day of service.

Recently, Mayor Jim Kenney visited CLIP workers in action at the Germantown and Erie commercial corridor.

“CLIP provides an essential service to both residents and small businesses,” the Mayor explained. “Cleaning up vacant lots and clearing graffiti is an important part in maintaining, and in some cases revitalizing, our city’s commercial corridors. All neighborhoods deserve to benefit.”

As part of his budget proposal this year, the Mayor has requested City Council expand CLIP citywide. It’s not only about cleaning up blocks, though: CLIP provides second chances for non-violent offenders, too.

In fact, 25 percent of CLIP’s workforce is comprised of ex-offenders.

To learn more about CLIP or to request services in your neighborhood, you can submit a Philly311 request online, through the Philly 311 app, by calling 215-686-8686, or by sending a tweet!
