What we do

The Board of Safety and Fire Prevention (BOSFP) is an advisory board to the Philadelphia Fire Department. The board:

  • Hears appeals of violations of the Philadelphia Fire Code issued to a property owner by the Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I).
  • Recommends actions on appeals of Fire Code violations to the commissioner of the Philadelphia Fire Department.
  • Offers advice on the interpretation and the application of the Philadelphia Fire Code on various matters associated with fire safety and prevention.
  • Makes suggestions on possible changes to the Fire Code.
