On September 8, we welcomed the inaugural cohort of Philadelphia Public Service Fellows. Their fellowship began with four days of orientation designed to help fellows build connections with one another, meet their supervisors, and learn the City’s policies. The week provided a foundation for fellows as they start their respective roles and contribute to various initiatives across the City.
City offices with fellowship initiatives
Each fellow works on an initiative in one of 13 City departments or offices, which include:
- Department of Behavioral Health & Intellectual disAbility
- Department of Commerce
- Managing Director’s Office, Health and Human Services
- Mayor’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- Mayor’s Office of Education
- Office of the Chief Administrative Officer
- Office of Children and Families
- Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity
- Office of Homeless Services
- Office of Immigrant Affairs
- Office of Innovation and Technology
- Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems
- Riverfront North Partnership
Fellowship tracks and focus areas
Each fellow falls into one of four fellowship tracks (Partnership & Resource Development, Research & Analysis, Program Coordination, Outreach & Engagement). Their work also aligns with one of three focus areas: Data & Systems for Equity, Education Access & Career Readiness, and Healthy Communities.
One fellow reflected on orientation, stating, “The week put into perspective how the Philly Fellows team commits to our success, giving me the confidence in myself and the work I’ll be doing over the course of the next nine months.”
As each fellow settles into their roles, we are excited to see how their strengths, skills, and innovative ideas impact the City in the months ahead. Follow @PHLserves on Instagram to stay up to date on their accomplishments.
