PHILADELPHIA—The Philadelphia Department of Public Health announced today that air quality near Sunday’s fire at 3810 Old York Road remained at acceptable levels, and the Department does not expect any lingering air quality effects from the fire. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, never rose above yellow at the nearest Breathe Philly monitor. “Yellow AQI” values mean that the air quality is acceptable. However, there may be a risk for some people, particularly those who are unusually sensitive to air pollution. 

The Breathe Philly monitor at 3934 North 5th Street, approximately 0.64 miles downwind from the fire, recorded a peak AQI of 75 for PM 2.5 between 7 and 8 p.m. on Sunday evening. Between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., the monitor recorded AQI levels between 68 and 69. Since midnight, the monitor has been reporting an AQI of 61.  

The Health Department does not expect to observe any lingering effects from Sunday’s fire. 

The Health Department continues to monitor air quality through its Breathe Philly air quality monitoring network, which provides 24-hour-a-day, near real-time information from 76 monitors located throughout Philadelphia.
