PHILADELPHIA — The Streets Department of Transportation announces proactive maintenance work starting next week on the Falls Bridge and MLK Drive.
Falls Bridge Maintenance Work
Falls Bridge will be closed to people walking, biking, or driving for two nights of sidewalk maintenance work. These closures will start at 8:00 p.m. and continue to 6:00 a.m. on both Monday, May 18, and Tuesday, May 19.
MLK Drive Asphalt Maintenance Work
MLK Drive from Falls Bridge to Sweetbriar Drive will be closed for daytime maintenance work between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. starting Monday, May 18. The timing of these closures will ensure MLK Drive is open to vehicles during the morning and afternoon peak commute times.
Work will continue daily through Thursday, May 21, pause over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, then resume Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29. This work is weather dependent, and the schedule may change.
Work along MLK Drive will include street resurfacing, patching, crack sealing, and drainage inlet adjustments. This will improve MLK Drive for drivers as well as people walking, running, and biking each weekend during the MLK Drive Closure for Recreation.
The MLK Drive trail will remain open and will not be affected by the maintenance work.
No work is planned during the extended Memorial Day Weekend MLK Drive Closure for Recreation. MLK Drive will be closed to vehicles and open for recreational uses starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 23, and will re-open to vehicles at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, for the morning commute.
StreetsDOT asks everyone to help keep work zones safe by slowing down, paying closer attention, and following all detours and directions when traveling near roadwork.
