In partnership with Center City District, the City of Philadelphia is implementing a series of improvements to Market East in time to welcome visitors expected for the City’s major 2026 events.

“This summer of celebrations and events will be a catalyzing spark in the engine of Market East’s revival,” said Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. The short-term activations are expected to bring new energy to the area while the Philadelphia City Planning Commission and Market East Advisory Board continue to work on longer-term planning through the Mayor’s Market East Revival initiative.

A $1.85 million grant from the City is supporting several upcoming projects, including:

  • Pop-up retail shops in vacant storefronts on the 900 block of Market Street.
  • In collaboration with Mural Arts, 5,500 square feet of artwork created by local artists installed along the corridor.
    • The first installation, coming soon, will be located at the Fashion District at 10th and Market Street.
  • Cleaning and greening the corridor by planting more than 40 new trees, collaborating with the City Office of Infrastructure and Transportation to upgrade four transit headhouses and 20 bus shelters, and freshly painting light and banner poles.
