You can now get your Philadelphia refund quickly, easily, and securely. When you fill out your petition, choose direct deposit, and the Department of Revenue will deposit your refund into your bank account for free!

Funds directly into your bank account!

Why wait weeks for a check when you can get your refund faster? For the first time, PhilaRevenue is offering ACH direct deposits. This is a quicker and easier way to access your money. Think about it:

  • You no longer have to wait for us to cut your check.
  • You no longer have to wait for the U.S.P.S to deliver your check in the mail.
  • You no longer have to wait for the check to clear after you deposit it into your account to access your funds.

Direct deposit means no waiting!

You can still get a refund by paper check, but you have to wait 10 to 14 days after your refund is approved. Paper checks are also more likely to get lost, stolen, or delayed than electronic payments.

Using direct deposit is quick and easy

Request your refund online on the Philadelphia Tax Center and choose direct deposit to save yourself the hassle! Follow these steps to submit a Wage Tax refund petition:

  • Visit tax-services.phila.gov
  • Choose “Refund Employee Wage Tax” from the “Refunds” panel.
  • Make sure you read the instructions and select “Next.”
  • Enter your information on the “taxpayer information” screen and follow the on-screen instructions.

The system will prompt you to choose whether you’d like your refund deposited directly into your bank account or sent as a paper check. If you choose direct deposit, you must enter your bank’s routing and account numbers. Also, indicate whether the account is a savings or checking account.

Get your money within five (5) business days after your refund is approved!

Prefer submitting a paper petition?

If you file a paper form and request a refund (using the paper return), we will issue a paper check. If you wish to request a refund via direct deposit after submitting your paper form, you must wait until the return is processed. You must then submit a separate refund petition and an ACH authorization form.

For general refunds, you can submit a paper refund petition, but (as noted earlier) online is faster, safer, and more secure. Please fill out and attach this ACH authorization form along with your paper petition. Or you can skip the extra paperwork and submit your petition online.

Direct deposit is available for all Philadelphia tax types, except for Real Estate Tax and fees, including water charges.

Track the status of your refunds online!

Easily track the status of your refund using the City’s “Where’s My Refund?” tool. The online tracker is available in the “Refunds” panel on the Philadelphia Tax Center‘s home page.

It’s easy to use, fast, secure, and available 24/7. You can use it on a computer, smartphone, or tablet to track any refunds issued by the Department of Revenue, including Wage Tax refunds. No need to create a username and password. No need to call or visit us for status updates. “Where’s My Refund?” has the latest information about refund status. Refund paper petitions can also be tracked but allow up to four weeks for the paper petition to reach our electronic systems. Updates are quicker when submitting electronically.
