The City of Philadelphia is committed to supporting employees both at work and at home. That commitment extends beyond traditional benefits by providing resources that help employees manage the responsibilities of caregiving and the unexpected challenges that come with everyday life.

Through its partnership with Wellthy, the City offers benefits that make it easier to balance work, family, and personal responsibilities. Whether an employee needs emergency backup care for a child, support caring for an aging parent, or assistance navigating healthcare for themselves, Wellthy provides practical, personalized support every step of the way.

Backup Care When You Need It Most

Unexpected disruptions happen. A babysitter calls out sick. School closes unexpectedly. A caregiver becomes unavailable. When those moments arise, Wellthy’s Backup Care Program is there to help.

Eligible City employees receive up to eight backup care days each year for every dependent child and eligible adult loved one. The program offers flexible care options to fit a variety of needs, including:

  • In-center childcare
  • Community-based care programs
  • In-home caregivers
  • Personal network reimbursement for care provided by a trusted family member, friend, or neighbor

With a $15 copay per backup care day, employees have access to affordable, reliable care when their regular arrangements are unavailable. Backup Care can also be used for planned situations such as school holidays, caregiver vacations, or other anticipated gaps in care.

Introducing Wellthy Care Concierge

The City is also excited to offer Wellthy Care Concierge, a benefit available at no cost to benefits-eligible employees, including both union-represented and non-union employees.

Caregiving often involves much more than providing care. It can include hours spent scheduling appointments, managing insurance paperwork, searching for qualified providers, and coordinating services. These responsibilities can quickly become overwhelming.

With Care Concierge, employees are paired with a dedicated Care Coordinator who provides personalized, hands-on assistance. Rather than simply offering advice, Care Coordinators actively help complete many of the administrative tasks that come with caregiving.

Your Care Coordinator can help:

  • File insurance claims
  • Contest medical bills and manage waitlists
  • Schedule doctor’s appointments
  • Find qualified in-home aides and babysitters, including conducting background and reference checks
  • Locate legal assistance
  • Apply for financial assistance and housing resources
  • Coordinate care needs from start to finish

Everything is organized through a personalized Care Dashboard, allowing employees to stay informed while reducing the stress of managing multiple responsibilities. Employees also gain access to Wellthy’s caregiver community, where they can find educational resources and connect with others navigating similar experiences.

Support That Goes Beyond Caregiving

Care Concierge is not only for employees caring for children, aging parents, or other loved ones.

Even if you are not currently a caregiver, your dedicated Care Coordinator can help you manage your own healthcare needs. Whether you need help finding a new doctor, understanding insurance paperwork, locating community resources, or navigating other healthcare challenges, Wellthy is available to provide personalized support.

This benefit is designed to make life easier by helping employees spend less time navigating complex systems and more time focusing on what matters most.

A Workplace That Supports You

The City of Philadelphia understands that employees perform their best when they have the support they need both inside and outside the workplace. Programs like Wellthy reflect the City’s ongoing investment in employee well-being by helping reduce the stress that often accompanies caregiving and life’s unexpected moments.

By offering both Backup Care and Care Concierge, the City continues to provide meaningful benefits that support employees throughout every stage of life.
