Got a Commercial Trash Fee bill in the mail? The 2024 trash collection bills were recently mailed to Philadelphians who use the City’s waste and recycling service. If you received one, you have until December 31 to pay.

The fee is $500 and covers weekly trash pickups by the City for the entire year, so long as the amount of trash set out doesn’t exceed the limits. Small businesses, multi-unit buildings, and mixed-use properties using this City service must pay this fee.

You can pay in full or in two installments—the first $250 by December 31, 2023, and the second $250 by June 30, 2024. Follow these steps to pay online:

  • Go to tax-services.phila.gov.
  • Find the “Payments” panel on the Tax Center’s homepage and select “Make a payment.”
  • Under “Payment options,” pick “Yes” to pay a bill you just received or “No” and use the dropdown menu to select “Commercial Trash Fees.” Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your payment.

You can also pay this bill by mail - make sure you send your payment to:

Philadelphia Department of Revenue
P.O. Box 966
Philadelphia, PA 19105-0966

If you did not receive a bill in the mail, you can still check your balance on the Philadelphia Tax Center without creating a username and password. Select “Search for a property” on the site’s landing page and follow the on-screen directions to find your property and pay any pending balances.

What happens if you don’t pay?

Your account will incur additional charges if you fail to pay this bill by the deadline, and may be transferred to a private collection agency. Nevertheless, if a payment deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be due the first business day following the weekend or holiday.

You may qualify for an exemption

The City provides trash collection service for some smaller properties for a fee, but most multi-unit and large commercial properties must hire a private hauler. If you use a private trash collection service, you can apply for a Commercial Trash Fee Exemption through the Philadelphia Tax Centerand receive a 100% waiver. A paper exemption form for 2024 is also available on our website.
