PHILADELPHIA – Kelly Drive, between Poplar Drive and Fountain Green Drive, will be closed to traffic during evening hours on Thursday, November 9, Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today.  The following temporary road-closure is scheduled to be in effect from approximately 8:00 PM on Thursday to 4:00 AM on Friday. If the work is completed more quickly than anticipated, the road will be opened ahead of schedule.

  • Southbound (Inbound) traffic on Kelly Drive will end at Fountain Green Drive. Traffic will be directed from Fountain Green Drive to Mt. Pleasant Drive, a left turn onto Reservoir Drive, and a right turn on to 33rd Street.  33rd Street will become Poplar Drive/Sedgley Drive at Girard Avenue and will meet Kelly Drive at the Water Works.
  • Northbound (Outbound) traffic on Kelly Drive will end at Sedgley Drive/Poplar Drive.  Traffic will be directed from Poplar Drive to cross Girard Avenue onto 33rd Street.  Traffic continues to 33rd Street to Ridge Avenue, followed by a left turn on Ridge Avenue to Midvale Avenue, turning left and then a quick right on to Kelly Drive.
  • Any vehicles parked within the closure area will be directed back to the closure locations noted above.
  • The pedestrian/bicycle path along the river should not be affected by the work.

The temporary closure will allow City contractors to complete an inspection of the tunnel at Glendenning Rock.  This work has been scheduled for evening hours to expedite the work, minimize disruption to motorists and pedestrians, and provide a safe work environment for the work crew.

All work should be completed, and traffic should be restored by 5:00 AM. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, residents, and businesses.  The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
