Spring is here, and it’s a great time of year to show your favorite neighborhood park some love! This spring, there are over 90 parks hosting clean-up service days for Love Your Park Week 2023. The event runs Saturday, May 13 through Sunday, May 21.

To lend a hand at one of the clean-ups, please register to volunteer today! This year, Malcolm X Park in West Philadelphia is the signature site. Love Your Park Week will kick off there on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Learn more about the kick-off event.

Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s Love Your Park Week:

What is Love Your Park Week?

It’s a nine-day spring celebration of Philly’s parks. Volunteers come out to their neighborhood park and lend a hand. They tend gardens and flower beds, care for trees, and clean up after the winter season.

Who runs Love Your Park?

Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation host Love Your Park week. It is a collaboration with more than 130 neighborhood-based volunteer groups. These groups are part of the Park Friends Network.

How can I volunteer?

  1. Click the button to register. In 2023, most clean-ups are happening on May 13, 20, or 21.

Why should I volunteer?

Here are two big reasons to lend a hand:
  1. It’s a great way to give back to our parks. Parks and open spaces are essential for our mental health and wellbeing. We are lucky to have 10,200 acres of parkland in Philly. This includes hundreds of neighborhood parks.
  2. You can help make create a healthier environment by:
    • Planting trees which beautify your community and help purify the air. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen.
    • Cleaning up litter. This helps keep trash out of our waterways. It helps fish, wildlife, and the quality of our local drinking water.

What if I can’t volunteer for the dates posted?

Don’t worry! There are other opportunities throughout the year to volunteer for Philly’s parks:

How do you stay up to date on the event?

Once you’ve registered to volunteer we will connect you, via email, with the event’s host group.
