Did you know there are six horse stables located in Philadelphia parks? We’re not horsing around! Some stables offer regular lessons and programs for children. One site hosts a therapeutic riding program and equine-assisted therapy. Each site offers annual activities where the public can interact with horses.

Belmont Stables / Bill Pickett Riding Academy

Chamounix Equestrian Center/ McCarthy Stables

98 Chamounix Drive. 

This site in West Fairmount Park is Home to Work to Ride, a community-based prevention program. Youth take part in activities centered on horsemanship, equine sports, and education. Other programs include 

  • Horseback riding lessons. 
  • Polo lessons.  
  • Summer camp. 
  • Discovery Days—a one-day program that introduces youth to a working farm and horses.

This Wissahickon Valley Park stable offers the following programs:

  • Horseback riding lessons. 
  • Barn days. 
  • Summer camp.

Monastery Stables

This Wissahickon Valley Park stable offers horseback riding lessons and horsemanship programs. Monastery is also home to The Philadelphia Saddle Club. Members can ride horses without the responsibility of owning a horse. Learn more about the Stables and Saddle Club.

Northwestern Stables

This stable in Wissahickon Valley Park offers the following: 

  • Boarding. 
  • Horse riding lessons. 
  • Summer camp.

Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy

8297 Bustleton Avenue. 

A nonprofit group in Northeast Philadelphia provides therapeutic riding programs for people with disabilities. Programs include

  • Equine-assisted activities. 
  • Weekly riding lessons. 
  • Pegasus Equine Autism Challenge and Enrichment (PEACE) program. 
  • Back in the Tack (BITT) Riding Program for Adults. 
  • Stepping Forward – A Program for First Responders. 
  • Equine Assisted Learning.
