PHILADELPHIA — The City announced today that Martin Luther King (MLK) Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic for the Labor Day weekend beginning on Saturday, September 3 at 5 a.m. through Tuesday, September 6 at 5 a.m. This is in addition to the road closures for the Made in America Festival previously announced. As part of the City’s commitment to users of the trail, the closure is part of a series of pilot extended closures to increase recreational access for the public.

  • Pedestrian and bike access to MLK Drive on Labor Day will be allowed at the MLK Bridge along the Schuylkill River Trail but viewing Labor Day activities from the bridge itself will be restricted.
  • Vehicular access throughout the weekend will be limited to pre-arranged rowing activities.

The road closure will help create a safer experience for walkers, joggers, and cyclists to enjoy the trail recreationally. The City encourages those interested in participating in the weekend festivities to enjoy this opportunity responsibly.
