Help Philadelphians learn! Now’s your chance to volunteer and become a part of a child or adult’s education journey. The Office of Children and Families currently has two volunteer opportunities available: Next Level Learning tutors and Foster Grandparents. Information on each volunteer opportunity can be found below, and you can apply for any of the programs here.

Next Level Learning Tutors: Next Level Learning tutors help adult learners. We need volunteers to help tutor adults in an array of different topics. Topics include learning English, basic workplace technology skills, literacy, and math. Before being matched with a learner, tutors receive a free 10–12 hour training by subject matter experts. Once matched with a learner, tutors will be supported by adult education professionals and will have access to ongoing training. You must be at least 18 years old to apply.

Foster Grandparents: Through the Foster Grandparents program, people ages 55 and over can serve youth in their communities. This program is part of the Senior Corps and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Philadelphia’s program is one of the oldest and largest of its kind. Foster Grandparents volunteer 15–40 hours a week in a pre-kindergarten or elementary school classroom. They also earn a stipend.
