PHILADELPHIA – The Streets Department has six upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Events scheduled in 2022 announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams.  The events provide an opportunity for the public to drop-off household hazardous waste that is not collected curbside or through other routine disposal options.   Philadelphia residents must register and schedule to drop-off materials this year, in accordance with PA Department of Environment Protection Agency’s COVID-19 protocols. The six remaining dates provided to Philadelphia residents for drop-off at Streets’ Sanitation Convenience Centers between the hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. are:

  • Saturday, May 14th, 4800 Parkside Avenue
  • Saturday, June 18th, 300 Domino Lane (Domino Lane & Umbria Street)
  • Thursday, July 14th, 8401 State Road
  • Saturday, September 17th, 22nd & York Streets
  • Saturday, October 22nd, 3033 South 63rd Street
  • Saturday, November 5th, 3901 North Delaware Avenue

Residents may choose the best date and block of time from the list above and schedule their drop -off using the online registration. Drop-offs are scheduled in 15-minute increments, with upwards of 15 pre-registered participants scheduled during each block of time. Residents will receive an email confirmation with their scheduled day, time and location. A copy or screenshot of the confirmation should be retained.


Trained staff will be on hand to sort and properly package materials dropped off for disposal.

Residents should arrive to their selected location at their scheduled time and remain inside their vehicle.


Handling and disposing of hazardous waste materials requires a special set of regulations due to the potential damage the items can cause people and pets. It is important to follow the hazardous waste disposal methods the City provides for the materials with the following product labels: toxic, flammable, corrosive or reactive.  Household Hazardous Waste can also harm the environment; one gallon of used oil can contaminate one million gallons of freshwater.


The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) estimates that the average household can accumulate up to 100 pounds per year of oil base paint, used oil, solvents, pesticides, car batteries, and other hazardous household wastes.  These materials can be safely disposed of by taking them to a Household Hazardous Waste event.


Computers are not accepted at any of the Household Hazardous Waste events as they can be taken to any of the Sanitation Convenience Centers during normal business hours. As a reminder, latex or water base paint is not hazardous and can be placed in the regular trash if the paint is dried up or solidified with an absorbent material, such as, kitty litter. Waste materials generated by a business will not be accepted.
