PHILADELPHIA – Construction on the Make Way for Children – Willard & Barry Schools Project is scheduled to commence the week of September 20, announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. Temporary lane closures are expected between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. throughout the duration of the project. The closures will allow a Streets Department contractor to safely perform construction activities including traffic signal upgrades and ADA curb ramp construction at specified intersections in the vicinity of Commodore John Barry and Frances E. Willard schools.
Motorists should anticipate some traffic delays and allow extra time to travel around the work areas. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2021. Temporary lane closures are scheduled for the scope of work at the following intersections over the next few months:
- Arch and 57thStreets
- Arch and 59th Streets
- Race and 59th Streets
- Race and 60th Streets
- Emerald and Cambria Streets
- Emerald and Somerset Streets
To complete the work, residents should expect some parking restrictions near the intersections. Temporary ‘No Parking’ signs will be posted in advance of each scheduled activity as needed. Cars must be removed from the work sites during the hours posted on the ‘No Parking’ signs to avoid being towed. In the event a car is towed, residents should contact their local Police District to determine its location.
This work is being completed by Seravalli, Inc. of Philadelphia with funding from a state Multimodal Transportation Fund grant and City Capital dollars. . The value of the construction contract is approximately $1.8m.
The Streets Department thanks residents and motorists in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
