PHILADELPHIA – The Streets Department continues its paving season on two major Manayunk thoroughfares during the overnight hours of Wednesday September 15, through Friday, September 17, announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. Temporary street closures and parking restrictions to accommodate street resurfacing are scheduled for the following streets:

  • Main Street from Leverington Avenue to Ridge Avenue
  • Shurs Lane from Main Street to Ridge Avenue

The resurfacing work for these streets is expected to be completed by early October and will occur in three separate phases over the course of the next several weeks – street milling, the adjustment of manhole covers and resetting of utility boxes, and final paving.

Operations for milling work (removal of old asphalt) will be performed during overnight hours between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., by a contractor of the Department, James. J. Anderson Construction Co. Inc. The contractor has scheduled milling operations on Main Street from Leverington Avenue to Shurs Lane for Wednesday, September 15; Main Street from Shurs Lane to Ridge Avenue for Thursday, September 16; followed by Shurs Lane on Friday, September 17. The closure of these streets and work are dependent on weather conditions. If the work is completed sooner, the road will be opened ahead of schedule.

Work for adjusting manhole covers and resetting utility boxes will be scheduled during the day between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., and is expected to last approximately one week per street. Lastly, operations for final paving will be performed by the contractor during the overnight hours between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. The final paving of each street segment is expected to last approximately 1-2 nights per street and will be coordinated with the Manayunk Development Corporation.

To complete the work, residents should expect parking restrictions.  Temporary ‘No Parking’ signs will be posted in advance of each scheduled activity.  Residents are urged to move their cars from the work sites when temporary ‘No Parking’ signs are posted, so that vehicles are not towed.  In the event a car is towed, please contact the 5th Police District at 215-686-3050 to determine its location.  Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling around the work areas.

This work is being completed by James J. Anderson Construction Co, Inc., and is part of the Citywide Resurfacing CW108 project.  The project is being financed with Federal and City funding. The Streets Department thanks the residents in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
