PHILADELPHIA – The City continues to manage storm damage and impacts from the remnants of Hurricane Ida. As local roadways have reopened, city crews, residents and stakeholders continue in recovery efforts including the remediation of streets and sidewalks heavily impacted by flooding. The Streets Department has scheduled cleanup on Saturday, September 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the following streets and areas bounded by:

  • Locust Street to Pine Street between 24th Street and 25th Street
  • Schuylkill River Trail area to 22nd Street between Vine Street and Market

The closure of these streets is dependent on weather conditions. If the work is completed sooner, the road will be opened ahead of schedule. Contractor and City Crews will be using bobcats and mechanical brooms to remove mud and debris on the identified streets. To complete the work, drivers should expect parking restrictions. Temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted in advance of the scheduled cleaning. Residents are urged to move their cars from the work site, to avoid being towed. In the event a car is towed, contact the 9th Police District at 215-686-3090 to determine its location. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling around the work areas.

The temporary closure will allow City employees to safely work along the roadway and provided an opportunity for mechanical brooms to clean from curb-to-curb. All work will be completed, and the roadways restored by 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 11.  For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, residents, and businesses.

The Streets Department thanks residents in advance for their patience and cooperation as we work to restore the roadways.   Businesses and homeowners can report storm and flood damage during normal business hours by calling 3-1-1. To help the City understand the extent of damage, residents and businesses impacted by the storm are urged to fill out the Office of Emergency Management’s damage assessment tool.
