Earth Week is an opportunity for Philadelphians to be outside, reflect on nature, and give back.  Join Parks & Rec to spend a few hours caring for the city’s green spaces and celebrating the natural beauty all around us.

Here are seven ways to get involved this year.

  1. Hop on your bike to visit FDR Park for Car Free Earth Day. The loop road will be closed to cars, and wide open for biking, running, walking, roller blading, and more!
  2. Explore the Pennypack Creek after work! The whole family is welcome to join this Earth Day creek clean up. Join Parks & Rec’s environmental stewardship team to see what park volunteering is all about. More here.
  3. Be part of Growing from the Root, Philadelphia’s first Urban Agriculture Plan. Visit the online hub to explore the history of farming and food access in Philly, and have your say on the best ways to support gardens and growers.
  4. Post your best tree picture for The PhillyTreePlan Photography Challenge. Share the story behind your favorite tree photo, using hashtag #PhillyTreeStories.
  5. Plant a tree with Audubon Pennsylvania and Parks & Rec. Join us in East Fairmount Park on Saturday, April 24 to remove invasive vines and plant new native trees.
  6. Paint a mural at FDR Park’s Earth Week Day of Service and Community Mural painting. All ages welcome! Activities include weeding, planting, painting, and meeting new neighbors.
  7. Learn spring garden care tips with the experts at the Pennypack Environmental Center. Advanced registration required.

COVID-19 safety measures in place at all Parks & Rec volunteer events. Masks required and capacity limited to ensure space for social distancing.
