Philadelphia – Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today that construction activities will commence on Monday, March 15 for the Thomas Paine Place Historic Reconstruction Project. Thomas Paine Place will be closed to through-traffic at the start of construction and closure will extend until its completion. Construction will be sequenced to maintain local access to the residents and the parking lot driveway(s) along Thomas Paine Place throughout the length of the project. Parking restrictions will be required to allow contractor access to the project and staging of the materials and equipment.

This project involves the reconstruction of Thomas Paine Place, a historic street in Philadelphia, approximately 350 feet in length.  Proposed work includes full concrete base replacement, construction of a granite block cartway, installation of new granite curb, replacement of concrete and brick sidewalks in kind, installation of new pedestrian lighting, and installation of new ADA curb ramps.

Work will be performed by Petrongolo Contractors, Inc. of Philadelphia, PA.  The amount of the construction contract is $783,783.00, and it is 100% federally funded.  Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

The Streets Department thanks the citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during the upcoming construction phase.  Residents are asked not to approach employees or contractors for information, as they practice social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
