PHILADELPHIA – The Passyunk Avenue Drawbridge, between 26th Street and 61st Street, will have traffic restrictions overnight on Thursday, January 7th, Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today.  The following temporary restrictions are scheduled to be in effect from approximately 10:00 PM on Thursday, January 7 until 4:00 AM on Friday, January 8:

  • Westbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 26th Street.  No detour will be posted for this short duration closure.  The Platt Bridge (PA-291) is the nearest Schuylkill River crossing to the south.
  • Eastbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 61st Street.  No detour will be posted for this short duration closure.  The Gray’s Ferry Avenue Bridge is the nearest Schuylkill River crossing to the north.

This temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely make necessary repairs to the bridge.  Due to the nature of the project, the work has been scheduled overnight to expedite the repairs and minimize the disruption to motorists.  Should work go more quickly than anticipated, the roadway will be reopened ahead of schedule.

All work will be completed, and traffic will be restored by 4:00 AM Friday.  For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.  The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
