PHILADELPHIA – As the City reopens and institutes the Safer at Home reopening plan, the Streets Department announces a return to regular weekly trash and recycling collections. Effective Monday, July 6, the Streets Department will resume collecting recycling every week along with trash. Residents should not set out their recycling materials the week of June 29 in continuance of the every-other-week collection schedule.

Regular trash and recycling collections will continue on or as close to its normal schedule as possible. Throughout the early portion of the summer months, residents should expect delays in collections to subside as the amount of trash placed curbside is expected to decrease.

Residents should place both trash and recycling out on their normal collection day at the regular pick up location. Residents are urged to use lids for recycling bins and trash cans, and bags should be tied tightly to prevent debris from blowing away. Lids for City-issued recycling bins can be picked up from the Sanitation Convenience Centers. Sanitation Convenience Centers will remain open on the following modified schedule for residents to dispose of items from Tuesday through Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The Department introduced the citywide shift to every other week recycling collections on Monday, April 6. The service change was in response to challenges that arose during the various stages of the pandemic, including challenges with employee attendance, increased trash and recycling tonnages associated with the stay at home order, and delays due to civil unrest.

The Streets Department thanks residents for their understanding during this time and as adjustments were made to provide essential services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. While delivering on-time collection services remains an essential core service, residents are asked for their continued patience and cooperation while we work to deliver service. Please do not approach crews while working as they continue to practice social distancing, Call 311 with questions and or concerns. The Streets Department thanks its employees for their dedication and commitment during these unprecedented times.
