Work continues on the 11th Street repaving and safety project. Below is an update on the project timeline.

The City committed to designing streets to keep all Philadelphians safe—particularly the most vulnerable users who walk, take transit, and bicycle.

11th Street’s new design shows the safety benefits of dedicating distinct space for each traveler. People walking, people taking transit, people biking, and people driving all have their own designated areas along the corridor.

To date, the 11th Street project has:

  • Paved over the unused trolley tracks.
  • Reduced the pedestrian crossing distance in front of moving vehicle lanes.
  • Encouraged legal loading zones outside of the moving vehicle lanes.
  • Provided a protected space for people who bicycle.

The project also includes striping of corner clearance areas. This ensures that drivers turning onto cross streets can see and yield to pedestrians and bikers.

The following steps are happening in the coming months:

  • Installation of educational signs to inform all travelers how to operate with the new street layout
  • Installation of plastic curb and flexible delineator posts to mark painted parking stalls and corner clearance areas
  • New signage to match the pavement markings and clarify where people should park and load
  • Adjustments to the pavement markings and signage to ensure safe conditions for people using the corridor
  • Parking and loading enforcement by Philadelphia Parking Authority and Philadelphia Police Department
