The Philadelphia International Unity Cup presented by Goya unites the city’s neighborhoods and celebrates its diverse immigrant communities through soccer. 52 teams representing nations across the globe will compete in this year’s World Cup-style tournament. The fourth annual event will kick off on Friday, August 2 at Ramp Playground.

Here are three new Unity Cup features we’re excited about:

  1. Five new teams: The new countries competing this year are:
    • Burkina Faso.
    • Romania.
    • Lesotho.
    • Iran.
    • Palestine.
  2. An opening ceremony: For the first time, representatives from the tournament’s 52 teams will march in a special opening ceremony. Each team will carry flags representing their country. The August 2 event will also include food, music, activities for kids, and a kick-off match between Jamaica and Italy.
  3. An all-star game: Unity Cup fans will be able to learn about the players and vote for team representatives to compete in an inaugural all-star game. The match takes place on Championship Day at Talen Energy Stadium, home of the Philadelphia Union, on October 12.

All games are free for spectators. We hope to see you in the stands!
