Parks & Rec’s 16th Annual Lucien Blackwell Boxing Showcase was a knock-out display of athleticism, sportsmanship, and good-old-fashioned friendly competition.

On October 5, fighters of different age groups, weight classes, and skill levels from recreation centers across the city competed in championship bouts at Gustine Recreation Center.  Winners were rewarded with first-place belts and bragging rights, while their opponents received runner-up medals. Every fight ended with a congratulatory hug and handshake between the competitors.

“Freddy J. and the Jenkins Boyz” coordinated the event. Family members, trainers, friends, and fans packed the space with energy and enthusiasm from the first bell to the last. Aside from the athletes’ impressive performances, their support and respect for each other were the highlights of the evening.

We look forward to seeing what next year’s showcase has to offer!
