In September 2016, we launched a monthly video series titled Part of the Plan.

The thought being, we research, write, and distribute public safety plans for the City, whether it be the weather or special events, like an Eagles’ Super Bowl Parade.

However, there was an important, critical piece of the plan that we wanted to make sure knew their part: You, the public.

You are the public in public safety. You are part of the plan.

Here is a look at some of our past videos and blogs. Take a peak at your part.

Part of the Plan: Flood Insurance

Flooding can, and does, happen here in Philadelphia, and it’s not just a problem for those that live near rivers and streams. This month, we talk to the City of Philadelphia’s Floodplain Manager, Josh Lippert, about how the city is affected by flooding and ways you can protect your property  from costly damage.

Part of the Plan: Heat and Home

In June of 2018, we talked to our partners at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and Philadelphia Corporation for Aging on the effect of heat in homes and the critical role neighbors play in helping one another.

Part of the Plan: Small Business Preparedness

The month of May features National Small Business Week, established by the U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) to recognize the critical role of these types of businesses in the United States economy and culture. A small business owner who has a shop at Reading Terminal Market shared his lessons learned from recovering from emergencies and what he does to be prepared.

Part of the Plan: CPR and Home Emergency Preparedness

Philadelphia’s Mobile CPR Project’s CPR Ready campaign was created to counter low public awareness of how to react during a sudden cardiac arrest and improve the survival rate of people who experience cardiac arrest by training people. They visited our READYCommunity in Wynnefield and Overbrook to give hands-on CPR training to neighbors.

Part of the Plan: Hurricanes

We looked inside our Hazard Mitigation Plan, specifically at hurricanes, tropical storms, and storm remnants. These storms bring destructive and disruptive winds, heavy rain, and storm surges that cause power outrages, flooding, building damage and evacuations.

Part of the Plan: Fire Safety and Preparedness

National Fire Prevention Week is observed during October every year. For the Philadelphia Fire Department, fire prevention is preached year-round as part of their community outreach. For this video, the Office of Emergency Management attended a “live-house burn” with Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel.

Part of the Plan: Access and Functional Needs Emergency Preparedness

A principle we practice is all-inclusive emergency planning, which is why we formed the City’s Access and Functional Needs panel. For this video, we looked at whole-community planning, focusing on people with disabilities. Leaders and advocates in access and functional needs, Charles Horton, from the Philadelphia Mayor’s Commission on People with Disabilities, and Neil McDevitt, Executive Director from the Deaf-Hearing Communication Centre, helped us form the message.

Part of the Plan: Donations

After Hurricanes’ Harvey and Maria severely damaged parts of the United States and devastated lives, there was an outpouring of a want to help.  We took a look at donations and making smart, knowledgeable choices when it comes to your time, money, and compassion.

Part of the Plan: This is OEM

We are your neighbors in the city. In this video, we pull back the curtain to our office and give you a glimpse to what we are about.
