PHILADELPHIA – Today, Mayor Jim Kenney and Miriam Enriquez, Director for the Office of Immigrant Affairs, released the following statement about Congress’s failure to meet the President’s deadline for legislation around Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA):

“Today marks the President’s deadline for Congress to find a legislative solution for Dreamers. Since manufacturing this crisis last fall, the President has rejected several bipartisan proposals from Congress, while thousands of DACA recipients have already lost their status over the past six months. The stakes are too high – we must find a permanent solution now to keep families together and keep our economy strong.

“We will continue to advocate for Dreamers and to ensure that Congress knows the urgency of the need for a permanent solution. DACA recipients are encouraged to take advantage of a temporary court injunction and to seek legal advice on applying for a DACA renewal.

“To our Dreamers – you make our city better and stronger and we will continue to fight for you.”
