The Alternative and Special Detention (ASD) division is comprised of Central Unit and several satellite facilities, some located on the PPS campus and others located in community settings in Philadelphia.
Opening in 1995, the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility (CFCF) is the largest PPS facility. CFCF consists of four housing buildings and an administration / core building.
The Detention Center opened in 1963, replacing the defunct Moyamensing Prison as the intake center for the Philadelphia Prison System.
Planned to incarcerate misdemeanants, HOC was built without perimeter walls and without observation towers.Correction
Opening in 1986, Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center (PICC) was the first PPS facility constructed to operate on the basis of unit management.
Opened in June 2004, the facility was designed and operates exclusively for the female population of the PPS.
