Philadelphia Fire Department's KidZone!

Course #3: Easy Escape Planning

1. Plan the escape

Gather with family members to create a fire escape plan. Your family should draw out a floor plan of the house. Identify at least 2 escape routes and a safe family meeting place outside. Ask Sparky for help.

2. 911 Emergency Number!

It is a good idea to have 911 stickers on every phone to remind you to dial 911 in case of an emergency.

3. Check all exits

Be sure to test windows, doors and locks to make sure they work properly.

4. Care for your smoke alarm

Test smoke alarms regularly! Barney Battery can teach you how to use smoke alarms correctly.

5. Practice, Practice, Practice

Be sure to practice the escape plan with your family at least 2 times a year.

6. Just in case

Be sure to know how to use fire escapes and window ladders if needed. Practice using window ladders on the first floor.

It is a good idea to meet outside with family members so there is no confusion about the safe meeting place.
