Opportunities and Services for Philadelphia Residents 55+
Our Services Free to Residents and Employers

The Mayor's Commission on Services to the Aging has received stimulus money to expand it's paid work training program. Low income adults aged 55 plus who are not currently employed and who are Philadelphia residents are urged to call 215-686-8450 to make an appointment for an interview.

BenefitsCheckup is a free, on-line service from the National Council on the Aging that helpsBenefits Checkup older Americans identify state and federal assistance programs that can help improve their quality of life.  This confidential service contains a simple, straightforward questionnaire that takes no longer than 15 minutes to complete.  Within minutes, seniors can get a report detailing the many programs and services for which they may qualify. Title V Older Americans Act Senior Community Service Employment Program offers subsidized positions for older adults 55 years of age and older who qualify under income guidelines. Individuals are assigned to public and private non-profit organizations for 20 hours per week at the minimum wage. Program enrollees receive on-the-job training to prepare them for unsubsidized employment opportunities.

Direct placement service offers job placement opportunities to older adults regardless of income. Application must be made at the MCOA office. Call for an appointment. Applicant may request full-time, part-time, temporary or seasonal work.

Employer services matches reliable mature workers with employers who apply to the Commission for help with filling part-time, full-time and seasonal positions in the city and suburbs.

Client services provide information and referral to clients seeking assistance and resources available to Philadelphia seniors. Clients also receive assistance in filling out the forms listed below by calling 686-8480/8461.

PACE (Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly) – Must show proof of age and Income

Property tax or rent rebate forms – Must show proof of age, 65 or older, income and receipts from the last year's taxes or rent receipts.

Federal and State income tax forms – A free service offered February 15 through April 15. Please call for an appointment 686-8450.

Energy Assistance – Must show proof of age, 65 or older, income and two documents with name and address.

Apprise – Counseling for seniors concerning Medicare, Medicaid and health insurances 686-8462.

Health care fraud education project – 686-8463.

The Mayor's Commission on Services to the Aging is a City agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for the older citizens of Philadelphia.
