In the fall, Philadelphia runs the Philly Fall Leaf program. During the six weeks that the program runs, residents can drop off bagged leaves each Saturday at one of 23 designated locations, or one of the six Sanitation Convenience Centers. These leaves are sent to Fairmount Park to be composted. Bagged leaves can be put out with the trash, but they won’t be composted.

The Christmas Tree Recycling Program usually runs the first two weeks of the year. While the program is running, you may bring your Christmas tree to one of 23 designated locations or one of the six Sanitation Convenience Centers. Trees must be untied and have no decorations to make it easy to recycle them. Recycled trees are sent to a vendor that chips them up as a bulking agent for composting. Trees placed curbside will be taken as trash instead of being composted.
