11:00 AM myPLACE Campus Grand Opening at Center for Literacy
Mayor Kenney, The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy, and representatives from the City’s myPLACE campuses will celebrate the grand opening of the fifth myPLACE campus at Center for Literacy, one of the nation’s oldest and largest adult education providers. myPLACE campuses meet the needs of Philadelphia’s adult learners and job-seekers by providing convenient access to adult education and workforce preparation. Since the program launch two years ago, more than 9,000 people have received services via this adult education system.

2:00 PM Mayor Kenney to Lead Plaza Allegheny Groundbreaking
The Mayor will be joined by Project Developer David Groverman, John Grady of PIDC, Pennsylvania State Secretary for Community and Economic Development Dennis Davin, State Senator Christine Tartaglione, Carmen Gambone of Tompkins VIST Bank, and Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez for this groundbreaking event for the Plaza Allegheny project which is an 85,000 square foot retail development project. The $16 million development project will transform more than nine acres of vacant and underutilized land and serve as an economic engine, creating 140 permanent jobs in a neighborhood with one of the highest unemployment rates in Philadelphia.
