Philly library lets you check out the guitars, literally
Philly.com // Mari A. Schaefer
Starting Monday, all it will take is a library card to check out a musical instrument in Philadelphia.
The Free Library’s Parkway Central branch, on 1901 Vine Street, will begin a pilot program that offers six string instruments – an electric guitar, electric bass, acoustic-electric guitar, mandolin, banjo, and ukulele.
The program is open to all borrowers in good standing, including those under 18, provided they bring along a parent or guardian. Loans are for a standard three weeks with no renewals, at this time. Patrons can check out only one instrument at a time.
Each instrument will come with a kit that includes a gig bag, tuner, strap, and small amps and cables for the electrics.
Best part – there will also be a few repurposed Free Library card guitar picks to keep.
Got a guitar in the attic? Or a student-scale, left-handed instruments or accessory that is in good condition lying about?
The Library would love to expand the program and is taking donations.
