WHAT:
A press conference will be held to announce a free city-wide expungement clinic hosted by the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division in partnership with the Mayor’s Office, the Office of the District Attorney and Community Legal Services of Philadelphia.
The clinic will be held with support of volunteer attorneys on Nov. 12, 2016 at six locations throughout Philadelphia. For more information, registration and volunteer sign-ups, visit GetExpunged.org.
WHO:
- Mayor of Philadelphia Jim Kenney
- Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Gaetan J. Alfano
- Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams
- Pennsylvania State Rep. Jordan A. Harris
WHEN:
Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, 9–9:30 a.m.
WHERE:
City Hall, Mayor’s Reception Room, Philadelphia, PA 19107
WHY:
In response to Senate Bill 166, which expanded criminal record sealing in Pennsylvania, free expungement and sealing services will be available to eligible individuals. Having a record sealed can allow a person to pursue permanent employment or housing that would otherwise not be available to them. It can dramatically improve an individual’s quality of life and lower their chances of recidivism, and hence also improve the community-at-large.
