The Philadelphia Advisory Finance Commission no longer exists.

Agency History
Appointed by Mayor S. Davis Wilson on 8 July 1937 and composed of 36 industrial and business leaders and city officials, headed by Thomas S. Gates, President of the University of Pennsylvania, the Commission was requested "to make a scientific survey of the finances and operating system of the City of Philadelphia" and to furnish a report to be submitted to Council. In addition to its final report in May 1938, the Commission prepared several study reports on particular topics and assisted the work of the Philadelphia Charter Commission (Record Group 143).
