[Record group 90-7]
Agency Function

Agency History
The 7th Survey District originally encompassed the original 20th Ward, which was broken up by 1890 into the 20th, 29th and 32nd Wards. In 1917, this area was given to the 4th Survey District and the 7th District was transferred to Southwest Philadelphia, where it encompassed the 40th Ward, south of Elmwood Avenue and 56th Street. In 1932, it was enlarged to a northern boundary of Woodland Avenue and Warrington Avenue. In 1941, with the abolition of the 11th Survey District, the 7th District covered all of West Philadelphia. In 1949, a new 10th Survey District was carved out of the 7th District, encompassing all of the old pre-1941 7th District territory.
