Severe maternal morbidity (SMM) refers to serious, sometimes life threatening, complications related to labor and delivery that can have both short- and long-term impacts on the health of the birthing person and their baby. This report presents trends in delivery hospitalizations involving SMM in Philadelphia from 2016 to 2022.
