Parkside-Wynnefield-Cynwyd Trail

Project Status: Design

This project will construct 1.3 miles of ADA accessible trail connecting Fairmount Park in West Philadelphia to Lower Merion Township.

The Parkside-Wynnefield-Cynwyd Trail will be the City’s first “rail-with-trail” along SEPTA’s Cynwyd Regional Rail right of way. Starting from 53rd Street and Parkside Avenue, around the Wynnefield Rail Station, and terminating at the Bala Rail Station on City Avenue.  From there the trail will connect to another section of rail-with-trail recently completed by Lower Merion Township. Both trails are part of the regional Circuit Trails Network.

Features:

  • 10 feet wide
  • ADA compliant
  • 12-foot set back from active rail line and separated by fencing
  • A stairway connecting from the trail up to City Ave.

Timeline:

  • Planning: Complete
  • Design: Fall 2025 – Fall 2026
  • Construction: Winter 2027 – Fall 2028
  • Complete: Fall 2028

Funding:

The current design phase is funded with grants from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) and State grants from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
