Luzerne Street (American St to M St) traffic safety project materials

The Office of Multimodal Planning is working to improve traffic safety on Luzerne Street between American Street and M Street as a funded capital project. From 2019 to 2023, Luzerne Street had 83 crashes, which resulted in two (2) fatalities and six (6) serious injuries. Explore our project materials to learn more about the Luzerne Street traffic safety project.

During our last two rounds of engagement, our team spoke with residents, school staff, students, parents, and businesses along Luzerne Street. In total, we reached more than 1,300 community members! We’ve heard that speeding, double parking, and corner parking are the neighborhood’s biggest concerns, along with a need to improve overall quality of life. Based on your feedback, we have proposed these improvements along Luzerne Street:

  • New paving
  • Speed cushion
  • Raised intersection
  • Street Trees
  • Median
  • Traffic signal upgrade

See the Phase 3 project pamphlet for specific improvement locations.
